Railway Planning in the Commonwealth of Virginia

The Rotary Club of Orange welcomed Randy Selleck, Director of Rail Planning and Environmental for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), to their meeting on Tuesday, December 17th. With over 20 years of experience in transportation, Selleck led an engaging discussion with Rotarians about railway planning in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Under Randy’s leadership, DRPT developed the 2022 Virginia Statewide Rail Plan, which provides long-term guidance to address the Commonwealth’s rail needs for people, communities, and commerce.
We also learned about the Transforming Rail in Virginia initiative, which is changing the future of rail transportation in the state by acquiring railroad right-of-way, increasing rail capacity, and reworking passenger and freight operations to improve reliability and expand rail service.
It was an informative session that highlighted the exciting future of rail transportation in Virginia!
